I have to admit that I’m a bit of an old fashioned grumpy old guy. I love the classics! I literally grew up in the dawn of the personal computer and while I did that, I played a TON of SimCity. So how does this new SimCity from EA fare against say the older ones?

Always Online? Then yeah it’s an MMO more than a single player game.

It’s a little too early to tell for me. I’ve only gotten in about an hour of gameplay (including the tutorial) and though it feels right, I tend to have issues with the tiny backwards steps the game has taken over the huge leaps forward it has gained. Myself, unlike others do not mind the “always” connected tether the game has. For me, I’m not looking at it as a single player game (and really EA shouldn’t have advertised it that way). I really feel like it’s a SimCity Online MMO.

If you look at other games who have adapted this particular model of purchase the game, play online free you see lots of high metacritics and user ratings. One game comes to mind since it was the most recent to do it. Guild Wars 2

. It’s the same model as SimCity, only GW2 players apparently don’t mind that you have to log in to play, but they do with this?

I guess that’s why I fall back to the marketing of the game, it really should have been the first attempt at a city MMO. Anyways, I’m going to play it some and then come back and write a follow up review. At the moment, I give it a good 8 out of 10.
